If a Tree Falls... Who Should File a Claim?

A Tree on your property damages your house

Your homeowner's policy should cover the cost to remove the tree and repairing the damage to your house.

A Tree blows over in a storm and damages your car in the driveway

If you have comprehensive coverage on your car insurance policy, it should cover the damage to your vehicle minus your deductible.

A tree on your property falls and damages your neighbor's house or car

Your neighbor should file a claim under their home or auto insurance policy.

A neighbor's tree falls on your property and damages your house

You should file a claim with your home insurance carrier. They should pay for the damages and reimburse you up to a certain amount (typically around $500) for the cost of removing the tree

A tree falls on your property, causing no damage to anything

Your insurance will most likely not pay for the removal of the tree.
